Week 5

SANITARY SYSTEM 

       For the week 5 topic, we had learn about SANITARY SYSTEM. Basically this sanitary system is a system where it is use to transport or carry away waste water and sewage from home, industries and other place to the  treatment facility. Normally , this network of pipes and pumps is buried below the street or inside the building .


In this topic , there are some keyword  that are very important to we know as the word are familiar but has different meaning.
  • Sewer = a pipe or conduit for carrying sewage and other liquid waste
  • Sewage = works required to collect, treat and dispose of sewage including sewer system, pumping station , and treatment works. 
  • Sewage = any liquid borne waste including liquid containing chemical 
  • Sewage disposal system = a system for disposing if sewage into septic tank and mechanical treatment. 
In sanitary system, all pipes are laid out to a slope and fall to allow the water and liquid waste to drain away without leaving any dirt and debris in the pipes . Also, all appliance connection  to the drainage system must ave a trap on them to prevent unwanted smell and gasses .

DRAINAGE SYSTEM 

there are two type of drainage system : 

  1. Drainage above ground - waste & soil paperwork connection
  2. Drainage below ground  - (waste/ Soil discharge)

WASTE & SOIL PAPERWORK CONNECTION 

 From the variety of different pipework arrangement possible for the collection of discharges from sanitary appliances , there are three major classification :

  1. Single Stack (Vent system)
  2. One pipe system
  3. Two pipe system

SINGLE STACK (  VENT SYSTEM)

     Act as a soil pipe and also as ventilate pipe. It is located inside/outside the external wall of the property and terminates above roof eaves level with a cage.Stack acts as a means of ventilating the below ground drainage system , which commences at the base of the stack. 


ONE PIPE SYSTEM

      When all type of waste from the building are want to be discharges into common sewer or into same waste disposal system, so one pipe system may be used. 



TWO PIPE SYSTEM

     When waste from kitchen and bathroom is  separated and the soil waste is discharged into septic tank. Soil stack is used for collection of the discharges from water closet while water waste stack used for collection of the water waste discharges from the other sanitary appliance. 



COMPARISON BETWEEN WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM AND SANITARY SYSTEM

Smaller size to big size pipe – loading of waste water
Fittings – regulated by valves & cock, more to concern on pressure
Fittings – regulated by series of traps & gully as containment of foul and smell.




Our Case Building 

In Dewan Sultan Iskandar, we have identify some of the sanitary appliance that have been used in the building sanitary system for waste water disposal .  This appliance basically will ease the flow of the waste water disposal.
